Rome
Program
Franciscan University of Steubenville offers a one
semester study abroad opportunity for M.A. Theology students to
enhance their graduate education through studies in Rome.
M.A. Theology students will study full-time (9 credit hours) for
one semester at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas - The
Angelicum. Students will reside at the invitation of the
Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular (TOR) at La Madonna
Della Salute guesthouse (Our Lady of Good Health) at the Convent
of Cosmas and Damian -- located in the very heart of ancient and
modern Rome overlooking the Roman Forum. The Convent is within
walking distance of the Angelicum.
Costs per semester are payable to Franciscan University of
Steubenville. A comprehensive charge of $6,200 includes 9 credits
of graduate Theology at the Angelicum, room charges, and a Rome
Program fee.
Additional costs include all meals (there is no provision for a
meal plan), roundtrip flight to Rome, an Italian Student Visa,
international health insurance coverage, a Passport ($85), 6 extra
Passport photos, and spending money. Students are eligible to
receive Federal financial aid loans for this program.
While the cost of housing is expensive in Rome, every effort is
made to control the expense by providing a clean, safe, modestly
furnished facility for students in a residential dorm type
setting.
The residential quarters offer 6 small bedrooms for one person
each and one largeer bedroom adequate for 2 persons. The rooms are
furnished with a single bed, closet, and desk providing for the no
frills living of a student who is able to live within walking
distance of the major theological institutions of Rome. A group
study room is located on the second floor. There are three private
bathrooms, each with a shower.
The facility does not offer accommodations for a formal board
plan. Students will be on their own for all meals. A kitchen and
dining room are available for the students. Many restaurants and
cafés are also located in the immediate area. A Franciscan
Brother familiar with the area can direct students to a wide range
of vendors for food and other personal needs.
Only a limited formal student life structure will be in place. The
concept for the program will be a "house of study" where students
in mutual support of one another seek to develop their mind and
hearts in the pursuit of advanced studies in the center of ancient
and modern Catholicism.
To be eligible for the Rome semester, students must have completed
at least 6 credits of graduate level Theology courses (beyond the
pre-requisite level).
To sign up for the Rome semester, students should contact the
Study Abroad Office and submit a non-refundable and
non-transferable deposit of $225 to the cashier in Enrollment
Services, Starvaggi Hall. Places are assigned according to date of
deposit. The program is limited to 8 students per semester.
