Our Mission and Philosophy
T
he Career Planning & Services Office provides career development services to currently enrolled students and alumni. These services are intended to give individuals career preparation skills and a framework for making career decisions. An ancient proverb says: "Give me a fish, and I will eat for today; teach me how to fish, and I will eat for the rest of my life." With this approach in mind, this office attempts to develop skills which can aid the graduates as they enter the workfield.C
urrent job statistics note that the average individual will change jobs eight times during their working lifetime. Keeping this in mind and in the wake of shifts in organizations and the general economy, it becomes important for a career-oriented person to be equipped for the present and the future. While no one can guarantee there will always be a job for every graduate, the Career Planning & Services Office seeks to build confidence in students.C
areer preparation is emphasized from the very beginning. In early college years, students are assisted in assessing their interests, abilities, and values within the scope of a liberal arts education. Career exploration aimed at matching academic study to actual careers is provided. As students move into their later years, they are encouraged to further explore potential careers through summer jobs, internships, and other activities that expose them to actual job environments. The entry into the senior year brings with it a serious involvement in the job search process and the transition from school to work or further study.
Man’s main task in life is to
give birth to himself...
